Live music at The Union Hotel, King St., Newtown
THURSDAYS 8-11 | 3-4 acts from all walks of indie, alt-country, pop, electro and experimental but tending towards the quieter end of the spectrum. We're all wrapped up by 11 so you can still get public transport home and make work the next day. If that's not a problem for you we spin sweet tunes til the free jukebox takes over and are open til 1:30-2.
SUNDAYS 4-7ish | A regular roster of roots music - whatever that means. Bluegrass, country, horns, whatever's good for cruisy, boozy recovery sessions.
ALL GIGS ARE FREE ENTRY WITH NO DRINK SURCHARGES (Musicians are paid via a percentage of FRONT BAR takings, just so you know where to put your wallet down).
We've hosted a good mix of well salted artists like Evan Dando (Lemonheads), Peter Fenton (Crow), Bruno Brayovic (Peabody), Ben Nash (78 Saab), Tom Morgan (Smudge), Bow & Davis (Front End Loader), Richard Cuthbert (Cuthbert & The Night Walkers), Lobsterman, Trent Marden (Holy Soul), Luke O'Farrel (The Laurels) Jason Whalley (Frenzal Rhomb), interstate acts like Ben Salter (Gin Club) Joe Mckee (Snowman), Tim & Kellie (Screamfeeder), Phil Gionfriddo (Bowers) and many, many, many more but we've also hosted the early shows of artists like Michel Michel, Persianlovecake, Nighttime & Child, Womens Axillary Choir and Beaverman who we expect to gather an ever increasing baggage train of groupies and accolades. We're about the music but unlike some venues you can sit down and have a chat, or play cheap pool while you're listening. And it's all free with no nasty drink surcharges!
BOOKINGS:
Contact andydepressant at gmail dot com . Please read the above before contacting me so you can tell me exactly how you fit into what we do here. We're not here for human jukeboxes, top 40/classic-rock cover bands or every type of music - If you loved the Hopetoun (RIP) we might be the venue for you. If you haven't heard of any of those bands, look them up. Hell come in and see a gig here first.
